Bak-Kut-Teh

Greetings from LANGKAWI!

Kanako and I finally went to try this famous Chinese soup!

The soup is made with several kinds of Chinese herbs, mushrooms, and pork.
It is known as the soup that gives you stamina.

It’s called ‘Bak Kut Teh’. It seems like it’s more popular in Malaysia or Singapore than in China.

In Langkawi, “Shark Fing” restaurant in Kuah is the place to go if you want to try this. Not only because this restaurant is known for Bak Kut Teh. But their offering is only Bak Kut teh!!
(You can stop by at a famous statue of eagle ‘Eagle Square’, then go to the restaurant!)

You can look for this picture to find the restaurant.

How to order:
1. Order before seating. Which size? Big or small?
2. Are you okay with pork guts or prefer without?
3. Do you want some side dishes – sauted veges (choice from 2 or 3 kinds of vege)
4. Any drinks? (There are beer, water? and juice. Juice seems like made from real fruit!)

After ordering at the entrance, have a seat and wait for the food to be served.
If not busy, you’ll receive food in no time.

Enjoy Bak Kut Teh(soup) + steam rice + fried chinese bun, and minced garlic or chili if you like.

Pork, mushrooms and some veges are cooked in clear soup. I was expecting to taste the strong herb taste, but I found it very clear, not-oily, simple but with depth from many ingredients.
Why this restaurant famous is because of this neutral taste considering using hearbs and guts. (Other places can be oily or smells, and not as enjoyable as here).

I couldn’t enjoy the soup, meat and veges together….I first finished the liquid because it tasted so good! The meat is very tender and well cooked including the fat part. It is cooked until the fat becomes solid like meat part.

The restaurant is air-conditioned, so you can fully enjoy this hot dish.
Many locals and tourists go here!

Thanks for reading and have a nice day!
